Arne F. Jacob received the Dr.-Ing. degree in 1986 from the Technische Universität Braunschweig, Braunschweig, Germany. From 1986 to 1988 he was a ‘Fellow’ at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland. In 1988 he joined Lawrence Berkeley (National) Laboratory, University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA/USA for almost three years as a Staff Scientist at the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division. In 1990, he became a professor at the Institute of High-Frequency Technology, Technische Universität Braunschweig. From 2004 until his retirement in April 2020, he was a Professor and the Head of the Institute of High-Frequency Technology at the Hamburg University of Technology, Hamburg, Germany.
Dr. Jacob contributed to a broad range of both theoretical and experimental microwave topics, reaching from component to system design. His current research interests include the design, packaging, and application of integrated (sub)systems such as active antenna arrays for satellite communications. He has been or is supervising over 50 PhD students, has authored or coauthored some 350 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, served as Guest Editor of several international journals, gave countless invited talks worldwide, and holds 15 patents (issued or pending). He or his students received several Best Paper Awards at international conferences.
Dr. Jacob organized and chaired several international conferences, such as the German Microwave Conference (GeMiC 2008) and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD 2014). In 2017, he was the General Chair of the European Microwave Week (EuMW 2017) in Nuremberg, Germany.
Dr. Jacob is a Life Fellow of the IEEE as well as member of the European Microwave Association (EuMA), the Informationstechnische Gesellschaft within the Verein Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE ITG), and the Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale (U.R.S.I.) Commission B.
