Jerzy Mazur

Jerzy Mazur received the MSc, PhD and DSc degrees in Electronic Engineering from Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) in 1968, 1976 and 1983, respectively. In 1969 he joined the Department of Electronics GUT, where he was the Head of the Department of Microwave and Antenna Engineering in 1982-1991 and 2003-2009. In 1993, he was awarded the title of professor by the President of the Republic of Poland.
His main areas of research are theoretical studies and applications of field phenomena occurring in the guides, and devices with gyromagnetic materials  magnetized ferrite, graphene, semiconductor), bi-isotropic and anisotropic (chiral, omega and metamaterials), and problems of electromagnetic waves diffraction on different configurations made of these materials up to over 100 GHz.
During the MSc he had already been modeling the ferrite microstrip line circulator. In his PhD thesis he analyzed the fi eld phenomena in open and shielded ferrite microstrip using spectral domain method. He generalized this model for multilayer structures of integrated guides with ferrite media, which allowed the application of the fi eld phenomena observed in these guides for designing integrated non-reciprocal structures. In 1981/1982 he was continuing his research at TH Darmstadt where he studied the fi eld displacement phenomena in an open ferrite “image” guide.
The use of the coupled mode method in studies of the ferrite structures of coupled guides allowed him to explain the appearance of non-reciprocal phenomena. For this, he self-formulated their electromagnetic models and equivalent circuits. These models allowed for studying the mechanism of the phenomena and determining the scattering characteristics of nonreciprocal integrated ferrite structures.
During his additional work as a consultant at Telecommunication Research Institute (PIT) he developed a similar model for the design of high-power rotary ferrite phase shifter and a model of this shifter was applied to the radar systems developed there.
Prof. Jerzy Mazur has authored or co-authored more than 180 technical papers and one book. He supervised and promoted 13 PhD and 5 of which subsequently became DSc. He has made a series of reviews of applications for the award of the title of professor, DSc and PhD and many reviews of articles for publications in IEEE -MTT, -MWCL, JEMWA, Piers and IEE and AEU journals. He is member of Electromagnetic Academy and Section on Microwaves and Radiolocation of the Committee on Electronics and Telecommunication PAN.
He is married to Ewa and he has two children: Dominika and Mateusz.
